Detailed China Travel Plans for UMMGC Alumni

Land-only pricing of these two options is shown at two different group sizes: 5-9 people and 10-15 people (alumni plus traveling spouses or significant others).

For group sightseeing excursions, local buses and guides for alumni/travel companions are private and separate from UMMGC’s and are included in the land-only prices shown.

Meals included in the pricing are shown in parentheses at the top of each day’s agenda.

MAIZE PLAN:

Air Travel: Travel arrangements inside China are built into Maize plan. International travel, however, is separate.

You may set up your own international air travel arrangements and fly independently to China from the city of your choice. As an alternative, on the Maize Plan only, you can elect to fly out of Detroit under a group rate with Delta Airlines arranged for UMMGC at a price of $1,100 plus air taxes and fuel (estimated at $430 and subject to change). This price covers your flight to China from Detroit to Beijing and your return trip to Detroit from Shanghai. The group flight travel schedule is as follows:

Land Price for the Maize Plan Includes:

  • First class overnight train cabin Beijing-Xian (shared with three other people)

  • Hotel accommodations at four-star hotels in Beijing, Xian, Chongqing, Wuhan, and Shanghai and at same hotels as UMMGC
  • For sightseeing excursions, bus transfers for alumni and travel companions by private van and separate from UMMGC’s
  • Private car transfer at Beijing airport to the UMMGC hotel with English speaking guide
  • Group transfer in Shanghai

  • A China visa which costs $140/person; you must visit a Chinese embassy or consulate to secure a visa on your own. Visa offices can be found in Washington DC, New York, Chicago, San Francisco Los Angeles, or Houston). Or you can find a visa agent near you to help at an additional fee.
  • Meals not mentioned in the final itinerary
  • Trip cancellation, medical, or travel insurance
  • Portage at airport and hotel

BLUE PLAN:

Chongqing, Wuhan, and Shanghai (10 Days/8 nights, May 7-16--Attend Concert #3; perform in Concerts #4 and 5)

May 7 Mon  Depart USA for Shanghai Pudong International Airport (flight arrangements to be made on your own)
   
May 8 Tue Please arrive Shanghai by no later than 6 p.m. local time (Try to make the connecting flight to Chongqing in conjunction with your international flight to Shanghai)
  Private transfer from Chongqing airport to your hotel is included

PLEASE NOTE: The last flight daily from Shanghai Pudong (PVG) to Chongqing (CKG) departs at 9:10 pm local time arriving in Chongqing at 11:55 pm. Try to get an earlier flight than the last one, but at a minimum, allow yourself three hours to connect in Shanghai given customs, immigration, and baggage claim procedures. If you can tie the Chongqing connection into your international flight, it could be cheaper for you and may help your transit in Shanghai. However, if you are unable to book this connection, CM can book it for you at additional cost and based on availability. CM needs to know your international and Chongqing flight information including flight numbers, times, and routing by no later than March 1.
