Thank you for your interest in the University of Michigan Men's Glee Club. The following information will help you understand how our organization works. If you have any questions, please send them to As you can read on our history page, the Men's Glee Club is a world renowned men's chorus abounding in tradition and musical excellence. We are proud of our history and our continuing efforts to perform at the highest level and to foster great friendships throughout our 100+ student membership. Rehearsals and Time Commitment We rehearse every Thursday and Sunday evening from mid-September through mid-April while school is in session. We have two major concerts in our choral year: The Fall Hill Concert and The Spring Hill Concert, the former always performed in mid-November and the latter performed in late-April. Both concerts take place in the acoustically perfect Hill Auditorium at the University of Michigan. Each Hill concert is preceded by a concert the week before. Other events include performing at football game tailgates, Winter Commencement, a weekend tour in late January or March, and a two week tour in May. Singers are expected to be at every rehearsal during the year. However, exceptions will be made for Marching Band members, and a certain number of absences are allowed. With this in mind, we expect members to plan ahead and make firm commitments to each concert of the season. How New Singers Join the Choir Admission to the choir is by invitation/audition. All members must be registered students at the University of Michigan. We are always eager to hear new singers and hold auditions every September and January. Our current choir numbers over 100 singers from a great many of the colleges on campus, freshmen to doctoral students.Audition Procedure The Men's Glee Club audition process consists of:Financial Commitment The Men's Glee Club is a student-run ensemble affiliated with the School of Music at the University of Michigan. Because of this, members are responsible for providing their own performance attire, which consists of back tails, a white tux shirt and vest, and black patent-leather shoes. This attire is part of our tradition and enhances our on-stage appearance. Members can purchase the outfit through a local men's clothier with whom the Glee Club has made arrangements. The approximate cost is $400. Also, a fully refundable music deposit of $45 is required. Spring Tour typically ranges in cost from $200-$500. Although these fees are necessary, we never put financial ability before musical, and as such, arrangements can be made for those members unable to meet the costs mentioned.Finally....whew! The Men's Glee Club is a male choir that enjoys making music to the best of it's collective abilities and having lots of fun while working at it.
